MOTOTI AND BLUE-RINGED OCTOPUS
To see Mototi or Blue-Ringed Octopus is nothing unusual at the moment. There’s a big number of cephalopods around during that time of the year. However, seeing two Mototi Octopus fighting was quite something!
Dive guide Deddy found the two contenders on our first dive back together. Deddy has just recently joined our dive team again – so welcome back “Om Kumis” aka “Mr. Moustache”. And it was time for him to get back in the water and for me to check if he still remembers how to dive 😉
I was lucky to capture parts of this entertaining fight between the two Mototi Octopus. I’m hoping you enjoy this short video.
One of the Mototis or Poisson Ocellate Octopus was the biggest I’ve ever seen. After taking a couple of shots it then decided to swim off whereas I tried to follow. Deddy at the same time spotted a second, smaller Mototi a bit further down the slope which was hiding in a small crevice in a rock.
The first octopus swam right towards the rock and once spotted the smaller octopus, jumped right on top of him, chasing him out of his home. A split second later the smaller Mototi moved away with the bigger octopus then sitting in its new hideout and looking very pleased with himself!
The whole show then carried on for another 10 min. with the smaller octopus trying to win his hole back, without success. Eventually, the big Mototi finished the wrestle with chasing his smaller mate off and away for good.
