Here’s a critter in Lembeh that most overlook -a commensal shrimp.

The Egg Shell Shrimp got its name from the large white area on its back, like an egg shell – pretty much the only thing you would be able to see as the rest of its body is translucent with tiny tiny red spots. It is a commensal with the Heliofungia spp. and Goniopora spp. corals. As it is very well camouflaged amongst the white blob on the tip of the Heliofungia spp coral, or blended in with the surface of the Goniopora spp coral, most divers swim right past it.

This shot here was taken by our repeat guest Chin Chin who visits us with her child-loving husband, Rory. He’s Bella’s favorite uncle! Chin Chin and Rory both have a uploaded their wonderful collection of critters from their stay with us last month, tagged to our FB page. This is a shot we’d love to see hanging on the wall. Well done Chin Chin 🙂
