On a recent Blackwater Nightdive i took this photo of a Juvenile Sole. Even though juvenile Soles are not uncommon in Lembeh Strait this is the first one i’ve ever seen free swimming in the the water column. This is particularly interesting as these juvenile Soles are often stated to be imitating Flatworms. Kind of obvious as they really look like flatworms. Even though i am not a Biologist i find this behaviour very interesting as (in my opinion) it proves that the Juvenile Sole not only happens to look like Flatworms (colour and shape) but also actively behaves like one by imitating the characteristic movements when swimming.
This Sole was found swimming about 6 meters above the ground within other planctonic creatures like worms, shrimps … and flatworms.
