Each person gets something different from photography. Some love it because they get to capture memories, for others it is a techhy nerd thing about gadgets. Many people enjoy the focus and escape from every day life that you get when concentrating through the viewfinder. Others are motivated by competitions / awards, and a very sad few are seeking fame from their shots.
Of course, we all get motivated in different ways by different subjects. I don’t particularly enjoy shooting Xeno Crabs, where as guest blogger Bent seems to find photographic Nirvana when spending time with them.
Once we have the shot we want, what should we do with it? Facebook is the easy option, as is Flickr. Im sure not many people bother to print pictures anymore… you can put them on your ipad or a digital frame, even your tv these days. So to get that warm feeling you get from taking a shot that you enjoy, i’d like to know what you do. Do many of you blog?
Today I didn’t dive, and all the guests were on a day trip so we had the resort to ourselves. The Staff were doing a bit of beach clean up and they found a Sargassum frogfish. I havent dived in about a week and really couldnt be bothered to change my lens for it so I said thanks to the staff and they left it alone in the seagrass (it was sitting in plastic originally so we had to move it). Then one of our guests, Mood reminded me that Bent really wanted to get a picture of a Sargassum, so like a flash I got my memory card, fresh batteries and appropriate lens and hit the water with just a mask and a weight belt. That was my motivation to start taking the pictures, as annoying Bent is always good fun. I took 4 pictures before I lost him in the Seagrass, and I got two nice ones. So what to do with them?
The only thing I can think of right now is gloat in the direction of Bent, and that does give me a warm fuzzy feeling! So here you go Bent 🙂 See you later in the year!
